DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has committed to start the energy efficiency movement and use of renewable energy at a large-scale, as a climate change mitigation action in the energy sector. In terms of climate commitment, Jakarta is on its way towards net zero-emission in 2050, with a milestone of 50% GHG emission reduction by 2030.
The transformation to renewable energy has been taking place through the installments of rooftop solar panels on government-owned buildings (schools, health care, hospitals & sports facility) as well as private buildings.
In 2009, the Government of Jakarta and PT PLN collaborated to develop a photovoltaic grid in order to reduce fossil fuel consumption and to reduce air pollution in Sabira Island, the furthest island of Seribu Islands. The operation of 400 kWp – Photovoltaic grid has emission reduction is 467 tons CO2/year, and fossil fuel reduction is 64.000 liters/year.
