Low Emission Zone (LEZ) is a form of restriction on motorized vehicles in an area with certain conditions. Kota Tua area is selected as the pilot for LEZ in Jakarta from February 8, 2021. LEZ is implemented by making traffic engineering that limits motorized vehicles from passing in the area with the aim of improving air quality. Only pedestrians, cyclists, public transportation, and vehicles with special low emission labels are allowed to pass through the Kota Tua area.
Based on the results of air quality monitoring in the Kota Tua area, there has been a significant improvement on Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU) before implementation, the ISPU was 58 and 53 (Medium category), while after the LEZ was implemented the ISPU value was 49 (Good category).
This good news can be a basis for scaling up LEZ areas in other areas within the city.
