GIZ is supporting the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to mitigate climate change in the energy sector by initiating energy efficiency movements and use of renewable energy at a large-scale, as a climate change mitigation action in the energy sector. The transformation to renewable energy has been taken in place through the instalments of rooftop solar panels on government-owned buildings (schools, health care, hospitals & sports facilities) & private buildings.
In 2009, the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta and PT PLN collaborated to develop a photovoltaic grid in order to reduce fossil fuel consumption and to reduce air pollution in Sabira Island, the furthest island of Seribu Islands. The operation of the 400 kWp Photovoltaic grid has reduced emission as much as 467 tons CO
2/year and fossil fuel reduction of 64,000 litres/year.
